What Is Underwriting?
Underwriting is the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) way for nonprofit radio stations to raise money. Underwriting is not to be confused with advertising. Noncommercial radio stations are not allowed to air advertisements. The main difference between underwriting and advertising is the content that is permitted. Underwriting is an acknowledgement of a donation, and is not allowed under FCC Regulations to make certain statements.
